An employee at CEMEX USA’s cement plant in Knoxville, Tenn., died on Nov. 5 after being engulfed by a large pile of coal, reported local media.
The Knoxville Police Department said that it took several hours for local fire crews to excavate and recover the victim’s body.
A CEMEX USA spokesperson said in a statement that the company is “cooperating fully with an ongoing investigation into the accident.”
The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has classified the fatality as “Engulfment.” It is the 27th fatality this year and the third to receive the classification.
